Born March 6th a little ways out of Delta, Utah, John was the youngest child out of five other siblings in the Dalton household.
From an outsiders perspective, the Dalton family was your average respectable Christian family.
However, John's childhood was not exactly ideal and he struggled with an evergrowing strain within
the ridges of his family -- especially his father. However, John was able to leave his family behind
in Utah as a teen with a few friends as he searched for a path of his own where he eventually settled in Richmond, Virginia.
John worked in a few different jobs as a teen, mostly assisting in car mechanics. They weren't very stable jobs and didn't pay him very well. Due to inner connections, John was able to eventually snag a position in the Richmond police department after successfully passing the police academy. From there, John worked his way up to becoming a police sergeant. He'd meet his wife during his time working in the RPD, where they'd eventually have a daughter named Eliza.
After tragically losing his daughter in a car wreck by a drunk driver, John's marriage quickly fell apart as he sought comfort in alcohol to
cope with the loss of his daughter that he often blamed himself for. John and his wife had a divorce a little less than a year after Eliza's death. After years of constant blame, John was
eventually able to learn to live alongside his grief. He floated between different hobbies after leaving the police force due to inability to keep up.
One hobby in particular, the paranormal, piqued John's interest. Surprisingly, John was never really a believer in ghosts. But, curiosities surrounding
what happens after death alongside hoping his daughter was in a better place pulled John into studying the paranormal.
John would meet one of his closest friends, Zoey, and they'd work together as a team and take up various
investigations together. In one of these investigations, John would meet Haunt -- a poltergeist, and his eventual
husband.
i created him around October of 2023 and didn't plan on doing much with his character. he was initially supposed to be a side
character to one of my stories i had been working on and was meant to just support haunt in his story. i went through a
stressful cancer scare during the latter half of 2023 and into 2024 as i was working on john and haunt's storyline. they quickly
became a source of comfort for me as i navigated through the unknown with financial stresses from doctors visits and examinations -- some of which i couldn't even afford. i was also juggling college and my job. but i became fixated on john especially for some reason. i went through a
breakup in 2024 after being in an emotionally draining relationship. it was then when i realized john was my subconscious cultivation of what i wanted in a life-long partner. everything about john i love. i love his stupid, lovable smile, his sweet brown eyes, his strong & stern but gentle personality.
like a big sweet grizzly bear. and i realized i didn't deserve anything less than a "john" in my life.
although he is just my creation, john is such a significant part of my life and who i am as a person. my irl friends know how much i love john because i never shut up about him!
john's music has been picked to go hand-in-hand with the American west. john has always reminded me of sprawling American desert, shitbox trucks, a dusty American flag, and cozy bars with deer heads in the middle of nowhere. "a horse with no name" is one of my all-time favorite songs for john and i always imagine it'd involve a long road trip through the hot, hot desert of utah
